After a bond is posted, some states require a continuation certificate to be submitted at license renewal since the bond is not continuous. States that require a continuation certificate are:
- Delaware
- Illinois
- Mississippi
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- Utah
- Virginia
- Washington
- West Virginia
- New Jersey
Some states are continuous bonds, but may require a verification certificate showing that the bond is active and in effect, to be submitted. States that typically require verification certificates include:
- Arizona
- Louisiana
- Missouri
- Nebraska
- New Mexico
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- Tennessee
- Wyoming
Some states must have a specific renewal date. Illinois and South Dakota require their bond to expire on December 31st of even numbered years. North Carolina, South Carolina, and West Virginia must expire on June 30th. Some states, like Virginia and Utah, require the bond to coincide with the two-year license term.
